Opening Times
Open at all times. There is no charge to visit the Railway Dam and Merredin Peak. Parking and picnic tables facilities are available at any time. Interpretation at the site.
Located off Benson Road, Merredin townsite. A Golden Pipeline Heritage Site. See Salmon Gum & Gimlet woodland, sand plain, a variety of mallee and granite rock habitats.

Open at all times. A Merredin Peak Heritage Trail Guide is available at the Central Wheatbelt Visitor Centre. There is a walk on the rock which provides interpretation of the history of the area and great views over the town and woodland. The woodland can be explored by walking to the east of the rock or off the Old Goldfields road on the northern side. It has an excellent representation of local wildflowers in season.
Merredin townsite - Off Cohn St, South Merredin. Birds – honeyeaters ( Red- wattle bird, White-eared, Brown), Red- capped Robin, Yellow- tailed and other thornbills, Grey shrike thrush, Rufous whistler.

Open at all times. Ask the Visitor Centre for details. The bushland areas in the townsite were used as rubbish dumps in past times and there are piles of “ historic “ rubbish in this area. Attempts are being made to clean up the area. We invite you to enjoy the bushland & ignore the rubbish.
Along most roadsides you will see avenues of the stately smooth barked Salmon Gum interspersed with the khaki coloured fluted Gimlet, the white to orangey bark of the Inland White Gum and the rough dark bark of the tall Morrell. York Gum, Raspberry Jam Wattle and Sheoak can also be seen often adjacent granite outcrops.

Granite rock outcrops worth visiting in most seasons. Wildflowers are best between June and October. Please ensure you have suitable footwear and clothing for walking on rocks and through prickly bush. Be sure to take water and a hat with you in hot weather.
