Basketball was back in full swing on Thursday the 6th Feb following the Christmas/ New Year holidays.

It would appear that Titans have been busy recruiting new players over the break and come away with a win defeating Brawlers 39-21. Best players were Steve Gregory, Jack Clarke and Paul Boehme.

Mustangs secured their fifth win for the season coming away with a 13 point win over Burra Boys 24-11. Best and fairest votes were awarded to Kane Swartz, Will Morris and Chad Riley.

Barbarians were able to keep their unbeaten record alive following a very close game against Bulls, after being only  two points up at half time. The final score being 38-34. Gary Anderson, George Heinrich and Leighton Trunfio were all awarded votes.

The game between Cats and Bruce Rock was played in Kellerberrin. Well done to both teams for making the necessary arrangements for this to occur. Bruce Rock came out on top defeating Cats 36-29. Best players were JR Gamiao, Corey Moylan and H Antazo.

 

FINAL GAME

Thursday 12th December saw the final games of basketball played before a well earned break.

Bulls welcomed the return of Ethan Price and come away with a win against Brawlers 43-28. Price was awarded three votes for his efforts. Other votes went to Adam Close and Jack Price.

 All 8 of the Bruce Rock players scored points when they had a big win over Titans 57-28. JR Gamiao, Corey Nelson and James Lindroth were the vote recipients.

Cats had an 8 point win over Mustangs 34-26. Best and fairest votes were awarded to J Pascoe, Hayden Barnes and Corey Moylan.

Barbarians kept their unbeaten record alive defeating Burra Boys 48-19. Umpires awarded votes to Mark Maloney, Cameron Davey and Tom Hooper.

Basketball is now in recess until the 6th February 2014. We wish all players, umpires and supporters a very Merry Xmas and we hope to see you back in the New Year.

GAME 8

With only 1 game remaining prior to the Christmas break teams are jostling to secure their position on the premiership ladder.

Mystics went down by two points to Partiots (2) 28-26, after being narrowly in front at half time. Theresa Jetta again scored consistently and was awarded votes, as were Erin Keamy and Marika Hayden.

Kella weren’t able to convert their scoring opportunities and went down to Fury 24-16. Renee Manning was the shining light for Fury and took control of the game when it was up for grabs. She was rewarded for her hard work and gained three votes. Other votes went to Ange Ryan and Sandra Garrett.

Vets struggled without their regular point scorer Shelley Lombardini. They were defeated by Burra 33-10. Narelle Gardiner found some form to take the three votes. Sophie Alderton and Sally Trunfio were the other vote getters.

Sapphires tried hard to get their first win of the season on the board; however it was not to be. They were beaten by Patriots (1) 38-13. Fairest and best votes went to Nat Hargreaves, Maddi Crook and Kylie Howard.

Benchwarmers were unable to stop Sonics Zoe Burns scoring consistently throughout the game, going down 32-19. Burns was rewarded for her efforts, as were Keryn Atkins and Nat Purdy.

 

 

GAME 7

In what shaped up to be the game of the night ended up being a 19 point win to Barbarians. They defeated Cats 37-18. With only a 5 points difference at half time Barbarians regrouped to come away with a comfortable victory. Gary Anderson is in fine form and once again attracted votes as did Raymond Griffiths and Scott Cooper.

Bruce Rock recorded their fourth win for the season over a gallant Burra Boys 29-20. Best players were awarded to James Lindroth, Leigh Fulker and Cam Davey.

Titans have found some form winning two games in consecutive weeks, defeating Bulls 34-26. Titans were able to share the ball around amongst themselves well with all players scoring vital points. Best players were awarded to Kale Beilken, Adam Close and Corey Nelson.

Mustangs have overcome a shaky start to the season overpowering Brawlers, with the score being 38-17. Best and fairest votes were awarded to Clarrie Wagas, Kane Swartz and Jack Price.

Patriots 2 come out on top in the much anticipated derby against Patriots 1. Kerry Dyer had a relatively quiet night compared to previous weeks and Marika Hayden scored 4 three pointers for the evening. Votes were awarded to Hayden, Toni Burns and Theresa Jetta.

Game 6 of the Merredin Basketball Association was played on Thursday 21st November, with a mixed bag of results.

In the mens competition Barbarians went on a scoring rampage defeating Brawlers 59-16, with scorer Rose Anderson coming away with writer’s cramp. Best players were Gary Anderson, Scott Cooper and Allan Howard.

Titans finally had a change of luck and had an 8 point win over Burra Boys 20-12. Although Paul Boheme came away with a bump to the head he was awarded 3 votes. Corey Nelson and Chad Riley were the other vote getters.

Cats continued their unbeaten record defeating Bulls 44-35. Jamie Pascoe had a great game and took away the 3 votes, with two going to George Heinrich and 1 to Corey Moylan. It will be an interesting affair when top of the table Cats and Barbarians clash.

Bruce Rock bounced back from a 6 point loss last week to defeat Mustangs 30-18. Gavin Brownley played well as did Claire Wagas and JR Gamiao.

Game 5

Burra Boys were very pleased with themselves securing their first win for the season against Bulls 18-12. George Heinrich, Cam Davey and Chad Riley were awarded the fairest and best votes.

Barbarians continued their unbeaten record defeating Bruce Rock 25-19. Gary Anderson scored consistently once again and was awarded votes as were Enderson Gamaio and Scott Cooper.

With only a two point difference at half time it appeared that Titans might have been able to bring up their first win for the season. This wasn’t to be with Mustangs defeating them 24-19. Votes were awarded to Kane Swartz, Ryan Jaxon and Clarrie Wagas.

Cats were able to overcome the loss on one of their players last week thrashing Brawlers 52-28.  Jamie Pascoe scored 22 points and was awarded was three votes for this efforts. The remaining votes went to Raymond Griffiths and Craig Saunders.

 

 

Game 4 of the Merredin Basketball Association was played in rather windy conditions, making scoring opportunities on the outside court hard to come by.

Barbarians continued their unbeaten record thrashing Titans 45-20. Gary Anderson once again controlled the game for Barbarians coming away with the three votes. The remaining votes were awarded to Leighton Trunfio and Joss King.

Mustangs scored their second win of the season defeating Bulls 39-28. Clarrie Wagas scored consistently for this team and was awarded 3 votes for his efforts. Other votes went to Kris Hayden and Will Morris.

Bruce Rock found some form coming away with a big win again Brawlers 38-19. Best and fairest votes were awarded to Endersen Gamiao, Jack Price and JR Gamiao.

Unfortunately the game between Burra Boys and Cats has to be stopped just prior to half time, following what appeared to be a very nasty injury. We wish Dan Taylor all the best for a speedy recovery.

Players are reminded that fees were due by the association’s third fixture which has now passed. Any unregistered players are required to pay a $ 5.00 fill in fee prior to taking the court. Please see 

 

 

Game 3 of the Merredin Basketball Association was played in very warm conditions.

Vets were on a mission to improve their percentage defeating Sapphires 49-10. Judy Jefferys again appeared amongst the vote getters as did Tracey Berryman and Amy McKeown.

Patriots 1, Kerry Dyer and Kylie Howard went on a scoring frenzy and were awarded votes for their efforts. They defeated Benchwarmers 28-12. Keryn Atkins worked tirelessly for her team and was awarded 1 vote.

Burra has a convincing win over Fury 27-8, with Michelle Price, Renee Manning and Keisha Hunter all gaining votes from the umpires.

Erin Keamy had a blinder scoring a game high 22 points. Her team Mystics defeated Kella 42-8. She was awarded votes as was Rachel Luers and Vanessa Morris.

Patriots 2 couldn’t overcome a slow start going down to Sonics 26-21. Umpires awarded votes to Kelly Robbins, Sonya Smith and Jemma Dayman.

In a very close game Cats has a 2 point win over Bruce Rock 29-27. AJ Williams work hard for his team and was awarded three votes along with Jay Black and Dan Taylor.

Michael Sharp made his first appearance for the season filling in for Barbarians. They defeated Bulls 42-29. Gary Anderson , Ethan Price and Tom Hooper were all awarded votes.

Burra Boys continued to alter the player numbers on the score sheet to suit their needs, however couldn’t come away with a win. They were defeated by Mustangs 26-9. Fairest and best votes went to Kane Swartz, Will Morris and Harley Taylor.

Brawlers Jack Price had a great game, scoring 12 of his teams 22 points. They defeated Titans 22-11. Jack was amongst the players awarded votes as was Paul Boehme and Shane Hendriks.

Players are reminded that fees are now due. They must be paid prior to taking the court.

 

 

Game 2 of the Merredin Basketball Association was played on Thursday 24th October.

In the mens competition Cats shared the ball around well with all but one of their players registering points on the score card. They defeated Mustangs 44 - 37.Best players J Black, M Innes and C Wagas.

Assistant coach Phillipa Davey wasn’t able to get the Burra Boys over the line against Barbarians, going down 47-23. Tom Hooper had a cracker of a game and attracted top votes from the umpires. Other votes were awarded to Damon Manual and Scott Cooper.

In a low scoring affair Bruce Rock 17 defeated Titans 14. Votes were awarded to JR, James Lindroth and Corey Nelson.

George Heinrich has another outstanding game. Along with his Bulls team mates they had a big win over Brawlers. 29-12. Other votes were awarded to Jack Price and Ryan Ash.

 

 

Game 1 of basketball for season 2013/2014 were played on Thursday 17th October, with the seniors competition comprising of 10 women’s and eight men’s teams.

In the mens competition it was pleasing to see the return of the Kellerberrin mens side Cats. They defeated Titans 34 to 26, with votes being awarded to J Pascoe, Corey Nelson and C Saunders.

Brawlers 28 had a big win over Burra Boys 11, Umpires awarded top votes to Jack Price, who top scored with 16 points. Other votes went to Cameron Davey and Shane Price. 

In a close game Bulls 29 defeated last years premiers Bruce Rock 26. Best players were George Hienrich, JR Gamiao and James Lindroth.

Barbarians have recruited well in the off season and come away with a win over Mustangs 29-20. Best players were awarded to Leighton Trunfio, Gary Anderson and Richie Mabborang.

Players are reminded that fees are due by the associations third playing date.
